National Cancer Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization which was founded in 1996 (originally the Long Island Cancer Society) with a mission to differentiate itself from the larger cancer organizations by focusing on the people…the victims, survivors, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers. Losing both parents to cancer, David Merlob founded the organization with a conviction to reach out to all those living with this insidious disease. “We are committed to identifying and serving the needs of all individuals impacted by cancer”.
In 2004, with a continued desire to differentiate itself, the Long Island Cancer Society changed its name to the Long Island Cancer Alliance. With its ever growing membership and our outreach throughout the country, the National Cancer Alliance was established to assist those throughout the country allowing the Long Island Cancer Alliance to remain committed to helping those on Long Island.
The Alliance is a grass roots organization funded strictly by private donors like you. The volunteer staff is committed to helping all people fight this disease. Unlike the larger cancer organizations, there are no huge administrative costs to pay, which enables us to give more back to the community.
Our Services include:

This program was established with the idea that children and their families who have cancer can spend the day boating and fishing, forgetting about their disease and just having fun. In addition, research studies have found that boating can lessen the side effects of chemotherapy as well as help in the healing process. Celebrities such as Billy Joel have participated in our “Feeling Good on the Water Program”.
